San Diego
For those of you who don't know, Sharon, Heather and I are officially in San Diego and all settled in. We live in the town of Point Loma, just on the border of Ocean Beach.

We rented a HUGE Penske truck, which I thought would more than suffice, but I was sorely mistaken. We loaded it up to the brim, and still didn't bring everything with us. We loaded up until 1am on a Friday night, and took off for San Diego at 6am Saturday morning. The drive was uneventful until we reached LA, where we met Heather's dad, at which time our 3-vehicle caravan turned into a 4-vehicle caravan. It’s entertaining caravanning with 4 cars thru LA traffic, especially with Sharon bringing up the rear, and deciding that jamming across a busy intersection and almost killing many many people was better than getting left behind in North Hollywood. We hit very nasty traffic all the way to San Diego, and it took us almost 5 hours do to a 2 hour drive.
When we finally reached our apartment, we barely made it in time to sign papers and get the key. We inspected our new apartment (which we rented sight-unseen), and we felt great about it. Everything was clean, we had new carpet, and its in a quiet part of the complex. We let the dogs run around a bit, and then decided it was time to start unloading.
It was me, Heather, Sharon, my dad, and Heather's dad unloading the truck. When we loaded it, we had the addition of my mom, Dan, Heather's mom, her sister Heidi, and Heidi's boyfriend (very big muscular guy). Unloading was a nightmare! We couldn't park the truck close to the apartment, so we had to carry everything quite a ways. We all seem to have very nice furniture, because all of it weights about a ton. It took us the rest of the day a
nd half of the next day to unload the truck. My dad and heather's dad took off to LA (my dad had a flight back to Sac), and we started unpacking. With boxes up the the ceiling, we had our work cut out for us. We worked through the night, and barely made a dent. I went to my first day of work that morning, and a pretty good day in which I got to choose my own cube (window seat woowoo!) and plugged my talents to everyone, and when I got home I realized it was MY BIRTHDAY!!! Heather had gotten me a ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins, and we had a nice little party, and I felt quite loved. We then continued unpacking, which took us a week to get to the point where we could actually walk around our apartment! But if feels like home now, and we couldn't be happier with our place.
My commute by car takes 10 minutes during rush hour, which is friggin MARVELOUS. By bike it takes a half hour, but I have yet to do that as I am lazy. We live around the block from a dog park, and the closest beach to our place (15 minute walk) has a HUGE dog beach. The dogs love it here, and especially love the dog beach. They would live there if they could.
We go to the Dog Park or beach every day, and go to the human beach (without the pups) a lot. Surfers tend to gravitate to right in front of Sharon when they need to change in/out of their wetsuits for some reason, which Sharon takes much enjoyment from, but I am not particularly fond of. I tried out my boogie board for the first time last weekend, and it was one of the most amazing feelings I’ve felt from a recreational activity. Floating out in the ocean past the breakers is breathtaking, and frightening at the same time. Every once in a while a particularly massive wave breaks early, and turns a relaxing moment into sheer panic!
Heather had a job interview yesterday at the YMCA for doing after school program stuff/daycare, and has another interview Thursday with another YMCA for a similar position. Sharon is getting a part time job nursing, and a part time job life guarding at the YMCA. We’re pretty excited that you can actually find good work here in SD, as we were getting a little scared for awhile about the employment prospects.
We're basically just enjoying life as much as we can, and San Diego makes that pretty easy. So, COME DOWN AND VISIT! We've got a blow-up bed and a nice couch!
